In this debut episode of The DR & the DJ, we meet our hosts, super couple DJ John Richards (KEXP) and Dr. Amy Lindsey (Craft & Clinic Naturopathic Medicine). We hear their views on music, health, human connection and how these things intersect in everyone’s everyday life. They share their inspiration and path to creating The DR & the DJ podcast.

We open with a peek into John and Amy’s everyday life. A routine trip to the drug store gives us insight into who is better equipped to administer an emergency life-saving procedure...a DR or a DJ? They also share their pandemic parenting experiences and why that bedside drawer is better kept off limits to the kids.

Our center piece is an interview with Josiah Johnson formerly of The Head and the Heart and now a successful solo artist. We focus on identity and what it means to him going forward in his career. Josiah discusses rebuilding his career after sobriety and Head and the Heart, shares his personal vulnerability, and his thoughts on sexual identity. Throughout the episode we celebrate the music from Josiah’s record “Every Feeling On A Loop."

Is mother nature telling us to stay in and bulk up during the winter? Amy hips us to the truth on vitamin D absorption and how, coupled with sunlight, it impacts our mood.

In the Weekday Wine segment, John and Amy share their views on midweek drinking, what is culturally “normal” consumption, and how it effects our health and John’s sleep.

And as always, John and Amy remind us that We’re Not Alone.

Music by Josiah Johnson, Palm Fronds, Chris Duryee and Joe Plummer. Theme music by Michael Lerner.
